Your Money, your Community, your Credit Union!

The Credit Union for Everyone ... Everybody Wins!

"Join the Credit Union and get your finances in control - best thing I ever did."
- Mary Bainbridge, member since 1999

"The Credit Union is the easiest way to save a few pounds every month, and the easiest way to get a quick loan to fund urgent bills. I applied for a loan for some work on the house and the money was in my building society account next day. It's much cheaper and easier than a finance company, and you know the money is staying in the area, so it's helping the local economy too. Everybody wins!"
- Michael Heaslip, member since 2010

WEST CUMBRIA CREDIT UNION

for everyone - anytime

A bigger and more accessible Credit Union for West Cumbria

TWICE THE SIZE

From 1st October 2015 there will be a wider range of credit union services available to a greater number of people in Allerdale and Copeland.

Two of the longest established credit unions in Cumbria have joined forces to form the 'West Cumbria Credit Union', a new organisation to serve the combined populations of Allerdale and Copeland. Allerdale Credit Union joined with the Cleator Moor & District Credit Union from 1st October to provide secure savings and affordable loans for everyone living or working in West Cumbria.

CHEAPER, BIGGER LOANS

The new credit union will offer a wider range of loans – some at new cheaper rates of interest, offering a realistic borrowing alternative to high street banks and credit card companies.

WIDER MEMBERSHIP

Membership is now extended to corporate bodies including commercial companies, authorities, and voluntary organisations. Five local organisations including Local Authorities and Housing Associations currently operate Payroll Deduction Schemes for their employees. This service will now be available to all employers throughout Allerdale and Copeland.

WEST CUMBRIA CREDIT UNION

for everyone - anytime

WORTH £1,500,000

The new organisation will have net assets of £1.5 Million with £1 Million out on loan, and a combined membership of junior and adult members of 4,500.

ACCESS ACROSS WEST CUMBRIA

All staff are being retained and all existing offices and collection points will remain open. In addition you can pay in at any Post Office or shop displaying the AllPay 'PayPoint' sign, as well as at existing collection points.

ACCESS 24/7

Wherever people are living or working within West Cumbria they will have 24 hour, 7 days a week access to their balances via www.westcumbriacu.org.uk. You can apply for a loan, request a withdrawal and new members can join, all from your smart 'phone, tablet, laptop or PC.

FIRST CLASS GOVERNANCE

A strengthened Board of Directors is already in place including senior officers from Local Authorities and Housing Associations as well as experienced personnel from the banking sector.

John Bailey, previously Development Manager for Allerdale Credit Union, has been appointed Credit Union Manager for the new body.

"The West Cumbria Credit Union will use the vast experience derived from over 20 years of continuous provision in Allerdale and Copeland as a firm base from which to expand its activity making saving secure and borrowing affordable for the whole community. The credit union is for everyone."
- John Bailey October 2015
