Why save with the Allerdale Credit Union?

  • Save for those times when you know you'll need a bit of extra cash - birthdays, Christmas, and holidays ...
  • ... and save for the unexpected emergency.
  • You can view your credit union balance at any time using the WEB BALANCES
feature from the members' area of this site.
  • Your shares give you access to affordable credit now and in the future. By your third loan you can borrow up to three times what you have saved.
  • Every year the members (that's you!) vote at the Annual General Meeting and decide on the annual dividend (typically 1%).
  • The more money ACU holds as shares, the more we can help local people by offering affordable loans.
  • Every £500 you save with the ACU stops another £300 exiting the local economy, that's nearly £19,000 per month that is kept supporting local traders, businesses and employment opportunities.

A guide for junior savers

If the scheme is running in your children's school (see participation list), your children can join for free and all the money saved is theirs to withdraw again at a later date.

Junior savers are issued with their very own Passbook and 'deposit' and 'withdrawal' slips. Collection day is once per week (term-time only) and money must not be brought in for saving on any other day. Savers may deposit as little as they like - there is no minimum. It is a really good idea to keep saving regularly, even if it is only a small amount each week. It soon adds up!

Each collection day, your children should bring their money, their passbook and a deposit slip to school - they should remember to fill out the deposit slip beforehand. When they want to take their money out, they should bring a completed withdrawal slip on collection day and they will receive a cheque the following week.
